Incoterms define where responsibility and cost shift from seller to buyer. Choosing the right term is essential to comparing quotes fairly.
EXW (Ex Works) places maximum responsibility on the buyer, who arranges collection from the factory. FOB (Free On Board) is common for sea freight: the seller delivers goods onto the vessel, after which risk transfers to the buyer. CIF (Cost, Insurance and Freight) adds sea freight and insurance to the destination port. DAP (Delivered At Place) means the seller handles transport to your named destination.
When comparing supplier quotes, always normalize them to the same Incoterm, and clarify who handles export clearance, freight and insurance so there are no surprises at customs.
